Being on a film set is one of my favorite things to do, especially a comedy. The atmosphere is always laid back and relaxed. Getting Familiar at Get Smart

Lots of folks from 'The Office' and 'Heroes' at the premiere for 'Get Smart' the other night in Westwood. They of course came out to support Steve Carell and Masi Oka's big screen efforts in the adaptation from the 1960's TV Show of the same name. Jenna Fischer seems like a normal midwest chick first, and a big time TV star second. I had to shout out the homey Hyla from Yo Radio who lives and dies for Star Trek when I caught up with the next Mr. Spock, Zachary Quinto, and it's always weird when you interview someone you have seen naked. Get familiar with Ken Davitians balls! (What up Sacha, them shits were on your face!)

Get Smart hits theaters Friday June 20th, and E!'s half hour special I'm co-hosting with G$ Rancic, "Live From The Red Carpet: Get Smart" airs Wednesdat night @ 6:00pm on 'The Vowel'.

The Happening

"Hey, are you free in the mornings to play golf? We gotta get out and play soon". That's what Mark Wahlberg said to me after our interview for 'The Happening'. I've interviewed Mark a few times over the years, and we just keep missing each other on the golf course. He's a busy guy after all. Not only has the promotion for this film taken him to Rome, Berlin, and now New York, but he has 3 movies on the way including LOVELY BONES with Peter Jackson, MAX PAYNE based on the popular video game, and either THE FIGHTER with Brad Pitt, or hopefully the feature version of the Sal Masekela produced documentary BRA BOYS.

Mark was there with his buddy Eric Weinstein, better known as the co-creator and inspiration for ENTOURAGE, so I brought my "E", Jon Budish. Biddy is a big Wahlberg fan (FEAR, BOOGIE NIGHTS, THE YARDS, etc...If you knew Jon, you'd know why), so that was a big thrill for the Upper West Side Legend.

The other John there was John Leguizamo who starred in the video I produced for Tony Touch many years back (check the link here, my mom did the catering), and the lovely and talented Zoey DeChanel starred in SURF's UP with Sal, so it all comes full circle.

Last but not least was M. Night Shymalan who couldn't have been nicer and more genuine. As you can see from the picture, he has something mystical about him because his photo didn't come out, while the others did. I guess there really is a dark side to the disturbing director after all....

Check out 'The Happening' when it hits theaters June 13, and try your best not to shit your pants. It's that scary....BL

Cupcakes with Heather Graham

The big movies hitting theaters this weekend are KUNG FU PANDA, and the Adam Sandler laugher YOU DON'T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN, but if you're not in the mood for big studio fare, check out my future wife Heather Graham in MISS CONCEPTION. She plays a woman in London looking to have a baby. (Hot Heather with a hot accent on top of it? Whoa...). She has great comedic timing, and the film belongs in the recent 'Baby Box set' featuring KNOCKED UP, BABY MAMA, JUNO, and the upcoming BABY ON BOARD.

Kung Fu Panda

Don't diss the panda! The latest animated adventure from powerhouse Dreamworks (The folks that brought us Shrek) hits theaters June 6th in the form of a fat, fumbling, Fu fighting Panda named Po, voiced by Jack Black in KUNG FU PANDA. And it rocks! You will be karate chopping your way out of the theater, I guarantee it. The movie has an all star cast from Angelina Jolie, to Seth Rogen and Lucy Liu, and like SHREK, older audiences will get into it as well. It stands alone as a quality kung fu flick if you're a fan of films of the genre, and it's cool to see a kids movie without penguins (no offense Sal, I loved SURF's UP, but enough already!).
The movie is special on its own, but covering KUNG FU PANDA was special for me as I got to interview one of the great actors of all time, and an old friend of my family, Dustin Hoffman. Here is a photo of my grandfather, Leonard Lyons with Hoffman at the premiere of THE GRADUATE way back when. The star of such classic films like MARATHON MAN, MIDNIGHT COWBOY, KRAMER vs KRAMER and RAIN MAN, to name a few, was cool enough to take a flick with me too after our interview, keeping our family tradition alive.
Shout out to Dustin's wife Lisa who just dropped her own line of beauty products that you can check out at www.lisahoffman.com Get that cake girl, and thank your man for hooking me up in The Lyons Den. Peace! BL

Yo, I know it looks ridiculous, but I went to the premiere with my buddy Adrian last week of YOU DON'T MESS WITH THE ZOHAN, and the movie is hilarious. You buy into Sandler's absurdity and John Turturro is classic as Zohan's arch rival, The Phantom. I promise you'll have a good time if you're in the mood to laugh and drool over Emmanuelle Chirqui. Shout out to Henry Winkler, Anna Farris, Emma Stone, The Daily 10's Kim Vo, and Malan "Why is she married?!?!!?" Ackerman, and of course, Super Producer Heather Parry as well. She makes moves...Zohan opens June 6th. Get a ticket and a haircut.

Dylan McKay in The Lyons Den!!!

The legend. The myth. The iconic Dylan McKay himself, Luke Perry took some time to hang out in The Lyons Den. Arguably the greatest character ever created in the history of television has a new movie coming out this summer on The Hallmark channel called, 'The Gunfighter's Pledge'. Honestly, who cares!!???!! I wanted to talk 9-0.

Things were tough for Dylan growing up. Sure he had money, and his own house and vintage Porsche, but with role models like parents Jack and Iris McKay, he was lost. Luckily, and much to his apprehension, he was taken in by The Walsh family, and made to feel like one of their own.

The one question I of course forgot to ask him in our historic interview, (I was probably just too nervous), was-"Brenda or Kelly? Who is the one?". Oh well, I guess next time I run into McKay, in Beverly Hills, or down in Baja, I'll have to find out. BL

Hilary Duff and Co. Wage WAR

Just so heads know, 'Indiana Jones: The Kingdom of the Krystal Skull' is not the only ticket in town this weekend. The new John Cusack, Marisa Tomei and Hillary Duff political satire 'War, Inc.' his theaters in a limited release.

Young Duff plays a middle eastern pop-star aspiring to conform to her perception of American culture: skimpy outfits, slutty songs, and a soft spot for fast food. Hmmmmmm...remind you of a real life pop star? Something tells me it wasn't by accident.

Reason enough to see the movie? Duff puts a live scorpion down her pants in an attempt to seduce Cusask. I rest my case... Hear from the girl herself, in 'The Lyons Den'. BL

Tropic Thunder

Check out these flicks from Tropic Thunder the folks at Paramount just sent me. Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr are having historic summers with Iron Man, Kung Fu Panda, and now this absolutely absurd comedy that will most likely be the biggest laugher of the year.

Iron Mania: I Was On It Early

As we get ready for INDY 4 to destroy the box office this weekend, Iron Man stills holds the title of the biggest movie of 2008...for now at least.

The key to Iron Man's success was being able to take what is essentially a "B" list comic book character, one loved and adored by the fanboy culture, but unfamiliar to the American mainstream, and crossing Tony Stark over into the world of pop culture. It wasn't easy, and it took a long time. To prove it, and to prove that I'm not just jumping on the Iron band wagon, here is a look at the best Iron Man interviews that I've done over the last 2.5 years in The Lyons Den.

And here's a heads up...watch out for me in the sequel. That's right! Jon Favreau himself said I can get a cameo in Iron Man 2. Holla back!!!!! BL

OK...
Excuse my late daily update, I just reconnected with my Mac (literally). Last night I had a late dinner at the Martinez Hotel off of the Croisette. After, the wine and dine I crossed the street to Carlton Beach to attend the Un Conte de Noel Premiere after party. Upon walking in I was blinded by these flashing lights that came from everywhere! I realized I was walking right in front of Sean Penn and Bono. After ordering a glass of champ (short for champagne), I saw a dancing Petra Nemcova breezing by the dance floor. Before the showfizz in my drink could fizzle out I dashed to the next place. Arriving at the Quintessentially/Margherita Missoni Party, I docked my shoes at the check in and slid through the fiesta. On board was Bar Rafaelli, Dean Cain, Goldie Hawn, Harvey Weinstein, Jade Jagger and Mischa Barton. Looking abroad I saw my friends on the boat next door and I decided to go over board and on board to Diana Jenkins yacht for Dennis Hoppers bday party. This felt like a night if Studio 54 could float rather than fly like they did. The celebration included Mick Jagger, L'Wren Scott, Harrison Ford, Calista Flockhart, Zac Posen, Sean Penn, Bono, Alberta Ferretti, David Furnish, Petra Nemcova and the people of Cannes with the RAZZLE DAZZLE! When I decided to end the night on a high note, I walked back to the first boat party and realized someone gave me the boot...NO, really. My shoes were stolen and the check in lady handed me a pair of boat boots to go home in. I mean...honestly. After a good nights sleep, I woke up in Heaven aka The Hotel Du Cap. I decided not to invade the fun going celebs last night with posting their pics from all the events. But, instead I chose to take the high road with no shoes and introduce you to the true celebrity of the Film Festival. The Du Cap!

Molly Sims Gets "Fired Up"

I have learned many things in the little more than a quarter century that I've spent on this gorgeous green planet, but no lesson more valuable than the one I obtained while visitng the set of 'Fired Up.' So when one of the most beauitful women in the world, Molly Simms (or as George Clooney calls her, 'Kentucky'), tells you mascots are sexy and cool and to do yourself a favor... Put on a tiger suit and do a cheer! Carlos In Cannes Update Part 2

Carlos, take it away dude....

Hey Ben,
Yesterday evening was Cannetastic! After leaving Hotel Du Cap I went home to change for the Nosebleed (starring David Arquette) after party on the Anheuser Busch Yacht. There I met up with friends Mischa Barton and Jeff Vespa, director and producer of Nosebleed. Going in for my last double kiss I realize I had to nose dive off the yacht and head over to the Palais for the Kung Fu Panda Premier. There's nothing better than running down the Croisette in a Tuxedo, for a second i felt like James Bond. Upon my arrival, I was shaken not stirred to see tons of HUGE dancing panda bears gallivanting on the red carpet. It was quite the site and panda express. I went to the after party with friends Max and Ali out on Carlton Beach. Everybody was Kung Fu fighting and I had to be fast as lightning to to the sushi bar before the crowd hit. The cast of the movie attended the party and reminded Cannes what Hollywood glamour was all about. A radiant Angelina Jolie glowed with excitement and with the help of Brad Pitt on her arm they laughed along with fellow co-star Jack Black. At the table across the way, was another Hollywood great Dustin Hoffman with his beautiful wife Lisa Hoffman and entourage. Other guests included George Lucas, Jeffery Katzenberg and more dancing pandas! High tailing my way to the next party was quite the ride when picking up a lost friend who could only give directions of "I am somewhere under a Welcome to Cannes sign and fireworks." Finally, arriving at the AKVINA GQ Party for "How to Lose Friends & Alienate People" Premiere I caught up with friend Simon Peg. The room was full of people who didn't seem alienated at all. The Gorillaz made a special performance and put a smile on Lily Allen's face. Harvey Weinstein, Gillian Anderson, Rodrigo Santoro and Natalie Umbruglia were also at the party showing their support. After a long night or early morning - I decided to lose my friends and say good bye.

Hi Ben,

Last night I went to the opening movie of the Cannes Film Festival called The Blindness. Starring Julian Moore, Mark Ruffalo, Gael Garcia Bernal, Danny Glover and Alice Braga. I attached a photo i took on the red carpet. From top to bottom is a pic of Devon Aoki,Bar Rafaeli, Mischa Barton and Kate Blanchet. The movie opened with an opening ceremony that introduced the judges of the festival, including Sean Penn and Natalie Portman. After we went to the Alberta Ferretti and Chopard party and then walked over to the Blindness after party. This morning I went to the Hotel Du Cap for a cocktail party out in the garden and snuck away to go sit by the pool with some friends who scored me some tickets for the Kung Fu Panda premier tonight. Off to tie my bow tie and on to the premier. Tell you all about tomorrow.

Hirsch and Co. Go Full Speed

As you all know, I'm a big fan of the work being done by Emile Hirsch. I think I saw my favorite film of last year, 'Into The Wild' a dozen times, and I've read the book now twice.

Fans of Hirsch in that film, will be surprised to see him as Speed Racer, the big screen incarnation of the popular 1960s cartoon show. The visual effects are obviously nothing short of spectacular, but the story itself is so contrived and flat that you'll find yourself sitting there watching the movie and saying to yourself, "Why do I care?".

The point is, you don't. Hopefully though you care about the stars of the film, many of whom I sat down with in The Lyons Den. BL

Adam Sandler & Baron Davis: You Have a Dream

Shout out to friend of The Lyons Den B. Diddy, Baron Davis who was up in the party last night. Check out his new website, ibeatyou.com, and this latest NBA Playoffs commercial with The Zohan, Adam Sandler. Both Baron and Ben Gordon told me they want to come play for the Knicks. I'll believe it when I see it fellas...

Be sure to check out Sandler in "Don't Mess With The Zohan" when it drops this summer. Dude is the most bankable comedic star in Hollywood and has created classic characters from Happy Gilmore to Billy Madison so pay some respect to the Don Dada of jokes and hit the theater this summer. Oh, and Emmanuelle Chiriqi is baaaaaaanging.

Lunch with Cloverfield

As we gear up for IRON MAN to kick off the blockbuster season in Hollywood, the first 'monster' hit of 2008, Paramount's CLOVERFIELD hit DVD this week as I am heading back home to New York City for the Tribeca Film Festival. Many people were mixed on the film; passionately championing it's creative approach to the Monster-Disaster genre and its unique marketing campaign, while others were literally sickened by its frantic footage and thought the actors/models were anything but authentic New Yorkers.

I for one, loved the film, and the experience of seeing it for the first time. It's important to base a good majority of an opinion on a film based on your first viewing of the movie. Yes certain movies get better over time, and you appreciate them more like a fine wine, but that first showing is always the most important and exciting for me.

I haven't gone back and watched CLOVERFIELD yet on DVD because I don't know if it will have the same impact on me as it did seeing it when I did surrounding all the hype. I got to eat some Pizza in Cali which is always a 2nd place to the authentic New York stuff.

Sarah Marshall Star Breaks Out

If you haven't seen 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall' yet, you're playing yourself. The movie marks the first big American project that British comic icon Russell Brand has worked on, and he is about to be a major star here in the states. He's already huge in The UK with successful radio and TV shows, a legendary stand up act, and several smaller movies. I hung out with the crazy, sex addicted, newly sober, incredibly intelligent comedian down in Hawaii recently. The footage speaks for itself.....BL
